THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MOSES – WEEK 6
ON THE RUN
FEBRUARY 23, 2025
When a human government commands what God forbids OR forbids what God commands, we are duty bound to obey God rather than them.
Exodus 1:7 to Exodus 1:8 = 400 years
Exodus 2:10 to Exodus 2:11 = 40 years
EXODUS 2:11-15 – One day, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his people and looked on their burdens, and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his people. 12 He looked this way and that, and seeing no one, he struck down the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. 13 When he went out the next day, behold, two Hebrews were struggling together. And he said to the man in the wrong, “Why do you strike your companion?” 14 He answered, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you mean to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid, and thought, “Surely the thing is known.” 15 When Pharaoh heard of it, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and stayed in the land of Midian. And he sat down by a well.

Two lessons:
Moses tried playing “god”
EPHESIANS 2:8-9 – For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
PHILIPPIANS 3:4-6 – though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; 6 as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless.
PHILIPPIANS 3:7-11 – But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
Your life is never so messed up that God can’t redeem it
PSALM 57:2 – I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.
ROMANS 8:28 – And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
