EPHESIANS – WEEK 3
Chosen – Part 1
APRIL 26, 2026
EPHESIANS 1:3-14 – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Christ, things in heaven and things on earth in him.
11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

Chapters 1-3

Chapters 4-6
Practice (how we live)
Expressive Individualism – The belief that a person’s highest good is found in discovering, expressing, and following their own inner desires regardless of eternal expectations. It treats self-definition and personal authenticity as ultimate and views authority, tradition, or community expectations as threats to that freedom.
DEUTERONOMY 29:29 – The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
PSALM 131:1 – O LORD, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. 2 But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.
EPHESIANS 1:3 – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places…
- V.3 – The Father planned your salvation.
- V. 7 – Jesus accomplished your salvation.
- V. 13-14 – The Holy Spirit seals your salvation (who’s going to take it from you?).
EPHESIANS 1:4 – even as (Greek = “because”) he chose us IN HIM (there’s that phrase again) before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.
DEUTERONOMY 7:6-8 – For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. 7 It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the LORD set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, 8 but it is because the LORD loves you…
DEUTERONOMY 9:6 – Know, therefore, that the LORD your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are a stubborn people.
ROMANS 3:10-18 – None is righteous, no, not one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God. 12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” 13 “Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive. The venom of asps is under their lips. 14 Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness. 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 in their paths are ruin and misery, 17 and the way of peace they have not known. 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
ROMANS 3:23 – for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
ROMANS 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
ROMANS 9:19-23 – You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?” 20 But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” 21 Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use? 22 What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, 23 in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory.
